Philosophy
I strive to cultivate kindness in a safe and comfortable learning environment where all dancers can freely create and grow. My goal is to make my students feel confident, capable, and able to use movement in a communicative, expressive way. The learning process in dance never ends. Connecting movements to feelings to music is an important concept I strive to bestow among all my students. I'll also never underestimate the power of using vivid imagery and imaginative thinking in the classroom.
The goals I have for my students go beyond the classroom setting. I teach respect, inclusivity, support, love, and open mindedness as character traits to work towards in your everyday life. I teach movement to all sorts of music, encouraging exploration of different sub styles of movement to match the music. Exposure to all sorts of varying movements and music promotes the life values I teach. In a physical sense I focus on rhythm, musicality, levels, lines, dynamic movements, where your movement initiates from, and general anatomical awareness in every class I teach. Efficient dance learning occurs through my thorough observation of students, with active application and adjustment of teaching tactics and choreography to cater to the student’s needs. Teaching strategies I have found generally most effective use visualization and physically feeling the difference between correct and incorrect technique or placement together as a class.
